Trauma Focused Therapy
Pediatric Counseling Center offers two trauma informed treatments: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is Dr. Fischer’s specialty.
- TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment approach shown to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers overcome emotional and behavioral difficulties related to a traumatic event.
- TF-CBT teaches coping skills, addresses distorted beliefs related to the trauma, and provides a supportive environment in which children are encouraged to talk about their traumatic experience
- TF-CBT also helps caregivers cope effectively with their own emotional distress and develop the skills needed to support their children.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is provided by both Dr. Fischer and Angela.
- EMDR is a treatment method that is effective for resolving emotional difficulties caused by trauma. EMDR is part of an integrated treatment approach and is often used in conjunction with other therapies, such as play therapy, talk therapy and attachment therapy.
- When a traumatic event happens, the memory can get “stuck” or “frozen” in the mind. EMDR assists in processing the “stuck” memory so that the emotional reaction the memory of the event is no longer interferes with the child’s functioning or development.
- EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation to work on the memories in a safe setting.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy
Angela specializes in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).
- PCIT utilizes a one-way mirror and wireless earphone to provide live coaching for the parent on specific sets of skills used to help shape their child’s behavior.
- The first part of treatment will focus on the parent learning the PRIDE skills, which are play therapy skills that will improve and strengthen the bond between the parent and child.
- The second phase of treatment will focus on compliance and discipline. Parents will learn how to give effective commands and what to do when the child is non-compliant. There is a time out protocol that is implemented if the child is non-compliant.
- Once the child is listening and following directions consistently and the parent is confident in the skills learned in session, a graduation will take place.
